Bhutan - India friendship

13 November 2004 - His Royal Highness the Chhoetse Penlop, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, patron and president of Bhutan-India friendship association (BIFA), graced the reception at the banquet hall in Thimphu to celebrate Bhutan-India friendship on November 11.

The reception was attended by Bhutanese dignitaries, representatives of the Indian community, members of BIFA’s working group, and teachers and students from different schools in Thimphu.

To further promote the friendly relations between the people of the two countries, His Royal Highness assumed the office of the president of the Bhutan-India Friendship Association in 2003 thus raising the profile and adding greater momentum to the activities of the association.

His Royal Highness the Crown Prince also launched BIFA local chapters in Samdrup Jongkhar, Samtse, Gelephu and Phuentsholing. Local chapters of the India Bhutan Friendship Association were also launched in the major Indian metropolis and the bordering Indian cities.

During his goodwill visit to India last year, the Chhoetse Penlop established the India-Bhutan Foundation with the aim of exchanging and interacting among the people of the two countries through activities in mutually agreed areas, particularly in educational, cultural, scientific and technical fields.
